Where does the money go?
In total, the PTA has an annual commitment to the school of around £3,500. This is to cover the cost of, for example:
The PTA also funds one-off large scale projects to improve the school learning environment. We have just given £5,000 from PTA funds to contribute to the new artificial grass area outside Years 3 & 4.
The PTA has also helped to fund larger projects for the school. We have contributed to, amongst other things:
School funding allows the school to provide basic equipment needed to provide a good education to our children (books, supplies etc) and keep the school running. However, it is the added value items that really enrich the children's education and experience at school.
Budget cuts are being enforced in all local and national government departments. While the school does receive funding from the Diocese and the LEA, the level of funding has been slashed. For example, the amount available for maintaining and improving the building and outside space has been cut from £40,000 to just £7,000 a year.
As we are a Voluntary Aided school, the VAT on new items over and above £2,000 cannot be reclaimed. This means that extra equipment, including computers, chairs and tables, cost the school 20% more than other fully state funded schools.
We also have few pupils classed as disadvantaged by the Department for Education. A school of similar size with for example 50% of pupils classed as disadvantaged would get almost an extra £100,000 funding thanks to the Pupil Premium.
With all this in mind, please support us whenever you can, as every penny we raise directly benefits your children.
